Backstabbing Doctor!

I'm only posting this for sympathy reasons, that's all. I haven't said much cause I don't want to be a complainer, but one year and... multiple visits to 3 doctors, an Xray, a summer of early morning physical Therapy, an MRI, a CT scan, 3 percocets (they don't help or I'd be taking them around the clock), lots of Ibuprofen, obnoxious back pain that won't go away and five lidocaine and/or steroid injections... later, my back hurts worse than ever! ARGH! I am so frustrated. Especially since neither of the back Drs that I see have a clue why it hurts. Awesome! When I stand up all the way straight or arch back at all I have to stop because it hurts so bad. It's like someone took a hammer to my spinous process on my T12 vertebrae. Seriously, I am so done with this. I can't exercise, work well at my job for very long or do any other number of things that I enjoy well without suffering major consequences. The crappy part too is I know it's going to make for a miserable pregnancy one of these days if it doesn't get better before then.

I'm sure most anyone who reads this has or is dealing with much more on their plate, but man, I'm so sick and tired of this! I had an injection today that was a diagnostic injection to see if a nerve zapping procedure would do the trick. I failed the test. Can't have the nerve zapping procedure and am now back to square one.

On the positive side, I get two back rubs a day from Chris (and Brooks). When my back hurts (it's really a small pin-point area that is painful) my muscles around tense up and it causes the pain to increase. I think Chris is getting pretty sick of the backrubs. It's not really fun for anyone anymore. When Brooks gets up some mornings before I do he'll pull my blankets off my back and rub his little fists on my shoulders and back. He's so sweet. I guess if that's what you've seen your dad do for a year, you think it's the norm.

Live is beautiful, not kidding. Just had to end on a happy note.

P.S. I like my Dr(s). I just though the title seemed a little too appropriate.

busted!

For those of you that read my last post, remember this line?

"Don't judge, I'm super overwhelmed (it's all relative) and the house is a disaster. I have no motivation to get organized or clean this week. I'm having a friend come over and help me clean before Chris gets home and I'm not going to tell him I didn't do it all on my own. :) He's not going to ask."

So I picked Chris up from the airport on Wednesday night and never said anything to him about the house or the help I'd had. In fact, it's been months since I mentioned maybe having someone help me once or twice. Anyway...we get home, I open the door, he steps in, turns on the light and says "Wow, Emily! The house looks great! How long was Tirssa here for?"

What?!?! Are you kidding me? Does he think I can't deep clean and de-junk that well all by myself? We'll he's right, I can't. At least not with the little person that lives in our house needing attention. I don't know who I was trying to kid thinking he wouldn't know. At least he was happy it was done and didn't have one complaint about the extra help. Now it's just keeping the house this spotless. At least we have a super clean and clutter-free starting point!

lunch downtown (and other ramblings to remember)

Brooks and I hit up Haggerman's Bakery downtown for lunch yesterday. Super scrumptious. I had a turkey sandwich with a roasted tomato spread and cranberry jalapeno jelly. Brooks didn't eat anything. He was too busy watching the TRAX trains pass by. He was in heaven. There were construction vehicles of all sorts around. He would crouch down and point and then make the sign for car while saying "varoom." I had parked across the street by the temple and only had a dime for the meter. It took us forever to walk to Haggerman's, order, walk back to the meter to add more coins and walk back to Haggerman's. I am not complaining though. I'd rather keep this kid busy checking things out on the streets than sitting in a chair at a restaurant. After lunch we wandered over to the Salt Lake Arts Center to check out their photography class offerings, they were closed. So, we walked back past the car again and spent some time on temple square. It was sprinkling rain, just enough to notice and enjoy it.

As we were walking around, especially on the sidewalk, I couldn't help but notice how many people noticed Brooks. He gets noticed for many reasons.
1] He's cute, but how can I not say that?
2] He doesn't watch where he's going and either turfs it or runs right into people
3] He gets so excited and animated about the things he sees, like the dog he thought was chasing him, but was really just minding his own business. Brooks was laughing so hard and then running ahead, turning around and waiting for the dog to "chase" him
4] any guy riding a bike, motorcycle or driving a truck is either "dad" or "grand-pa" and he has to sign and point at them while saying it, yep, he's talking to you...(although he says "grandpa" more like "de poix" -dead serious Jody, verbatim)
5] he's freaking out screaming bloody murder and trying to wiggle out of my arms or throwing himself down on the ground, this is my personal fave (when he followed some kids into the Tabernacle he immediately starting freaking out thinking we were going to Sacrament meeting and he'd have to sit still, the missionaries' pin drop demonstration was ruined).

Some reasons for getting noticed are much better than others. While we were out I was thinking about how much I love living downtown and being able to walk everywhere. It's great and I hope the next place we live we can do the same thing.

I put Brooks' clothes that were too small for him in a laundry basket waiting to be taking care of. When I put him down for a nap today I could tell he was getting into trouble rather than sleeping. When I peaked around the corner I was so frustrated that he'd pulled all of his newly folded clothes out of the dresser, but on closer inspection, he had tried to shove all of his old clothes back in. He has a hard time letting things go I guess.

Brooks has decided that he can imitate us and has now started to add a few words to his vocabulary. It pales in comparison to the two 18 month old girls in the neighborhood that he plays with, but I know I shouldn't compare and I'm happy for any progress. He started with Bubbles and poo-poo (I know..) and now attempts all sorts of "B" and "P" sounds, although most are indistinguishable unless you can see what he's signing. A few other words he consistently attempts are: bear, boat, ball, blow, bowl, purple, yellow, apple, water, nigh-night, shirt, socks, no-no (he's got that one down!) and a few more. It's been awesome to see his progress and to know that the time Chris and I have spent going to a language class every week is paying off. We've been able to connect so much more with Brooks and really follow his lead when it comes to his communication style and abilities. This has allowed him to show us what he's interested in communicating about and we can then give him the words for his interests.

Don't judge, I'm super overwhelmed (it's all relative) and the house is a disaster. I have to motivation to get organized or clean this week. I'm having a friend come over and help me clean before Chris gets home and I'm not going to tell him I didn't do it all on my own. :) He's not going to ask.

Brooks just laughed in his sleep. Cute. Reminds me that I should get some rest too.

Question: Would you rather live in Austin, TX; Provo, UT; SLC, UT; Arlington, VA; or Williamsburg, VA? Ya, I don't know either.
