Grandma turned 80!!!
My dear Grandmother, Margaret Harbertson Newey turned 80 years old last week. We had a lovely brunch at her home to honor her. I really love my grandma! She's so sweet, caring and kind. I love being able to spend time with her. She just loves Brooks so much, and had a great time with him.

Nine months
Yep, I can't believe it either. Actually he's getting closer to ten, I've just been slow at posting this.
Stats: 22 lbs and 31 inches long, 77th and 99th percentiles respectively.
favorite foods: avocados and bananas
favorite toy: anything he can really get his teeth into
favorite song: anything from baby signing time. He's started dancing to the music and signs "more" occasionally. He's pretty proud of himself when he does it too.
He loves being outside and going on walks. In February I took advantage of a warm day and walked to the park on 13th east. He loved the swings. I'm glad.
I can't wait for summer with this kid. Lots of fun to be had!

sleep milestone
We thought it was going to be harder than it really was to get Brooks to sleep in his crib all night long. He started waking up around 2am a couple months ago and would scream at us until we put him in bed with us. As soon as he laid his head in our bed he was out like a light. That made for not great sleep for me. We decided it was time to break the habit a few weeks ago. It really only took about five nights of him crying himself back to sleep. He's been able to do that to go to bed in the first place, but not in the middle of the night. The first few nights he woke up frequently and cried quite a bit, only a couple of episodes longer than 30 minutes. He then would wake up and cry for two or three minutes and then bury his face in the blankets and fall back asleep. Now he doesn't even wake up at night most nights. YAHOO! This is now his favorite sleeping position and he's lucky if he sleeps under the blankets for more than two hours a night. I'm glad getting him into his crib all night wasn't that bad. I didn't have it in me to let him cry it our for a long time. I don't mind if he cries for a while, but I do mind not sleeping while he cries.
yay for babies
What a stud
Brooks' new fave
We invested in these plastic balls to fill the pack and play with to keep Brooks entertained. He can't do one thing for more than two minutes and this just may be the trick. He really could benefit from a padded room full of rice that he could run through his fingers and kick with his feet. He needs a lot, and I mean A LOT of sensory input. His occupational therapist recommended swinging him in a blanket and throwing him onto the couch or bed. Yep, he loves it. Anything rough or dangerous and he's all about it.
On that same note, he cannot play with other babies. He really craves deep pressure like tight hugs etc. When he plays with other babies (or really anyone) he hits them really hard, crawls over the top of them or tries to eat their foreheads. He doesn't really feel pain much (no kidding) so he doesn't get why the other babies start crying. I hope we can find a way to get him over it so he can make friends.

We went out to lunch today with my mom and big brother Chris. Yummy Corned Beef and Cabbage and Squatters Root Beer. Brooks loved being out in the sun, not so much in the restaurant.
